Do your students’ writing skills lag behind their speaking level? Or perhaps they lack the language needed for formal or academic writing? Do they struggle with the structure and layout of reports? This book provides model answers and analysis to help your learners upgrade their writing skills and prepare for assessments and exams.
Although this book has been written with the SQA ESOL National 5 exam in mind (a Scottish exam), much of its content will be relevant to ESOL Level 1 / Upper intermediate / B2 learners in general.
I do like this book, it’s really useful. I relied on it to improve my writing in terms of formal and informal emails, reports and essay. Furthermore, its explanations are easy and clear to understand for everyone. I highly recommend this book.

Writing for SQA ESOL National 5 clarifies the structure of advanced writing tasks needed for everyone being prepared for the exam. Not only is it useful for college students, but it can also be beneficial for learners at school. If a friend of mine were looking for a book to learn how to write, l would definitely urge them to buy this book.

This book has an easy-to-follow, intuitively understandable structure and tasks. You may learn a “skeleton” for your exam writing tasks as well as essential structures, necessary linking words, useful grammar structures or typical word collocations necessary during the final exam. You only need to fill out the gaps according to your exam task as you already know everything. Although this book was written for group work in the classroom, my classmates and I found it easy to use for self-study at home.

Writing for SQA ESOL National 5 is my go-to resource for teaching writing skills at this level and has helped my students successfully prepare for the ESOL National 5 exam. It’s a great tool for providing students with the skills they need to master exam tasks such as formal and informal emails, reports, and essays. I particularly appreciate how the different chapters are tailored to develop key language and structure without overwhelming students with unnecessary details – simple but very effective!
