Download the free PDF and Power Point slides below and use the worksheet on the first day back after the holiday! Through the worksheet you can help your students practise their reading through a text focusing on various New Year traditions around the world. There is enough here for a full lesson plus homework!
The material also includes some language work through a focus on ‘going to’, leading to the learners speaking and writing about their own New Year Resolutions. There is a game included here in the Power Point slides where the students guess their teacher’s Resolutions. This is editable of course so you can change the resolutions.

If you are looking for this type of material for beginners / Entry Level 1 groups, check out the Read and Write every day Upper ESOL Literacy series. Check out the PDF and Power Point downloads below. If you have any feedback, I’d love to know how it goes. You can leave a comment below.

That’s great and I hope it went well!
This is excellent, Dave! Great pictures, genuinely interesting exercises with lots of variety and an authentic context for teaching grammar. As a new Pre-entry teacher I really appreciate you sharing these resources and will be using them on Saturday. Thank you.
You’re very welcome Jenny and thank you so much for this lovely feedback. I enjoyed creating the resources and also using them with my class this week.
